Publisher/Author, R.L. “Becky” Coffield is an award-winning freelance writer who has garnered awards in both fiction and nonfiction and is the author of five published books. Among her titles is the award-winning suspense novel, Northern Escape, and its sequel, Death in the Desert. Her nonfiction, humorous travel book, Life Was a Cabaret: A Tale of Two Fools, A Boat, and a Big A** Ocean, has won two awards. Not to be outdone (well, too outdone, anyway) by Julia Child or Rachel Ray, Coffield has also written two cookbooks, including the popular One Pot Galley Gourmet and the specialty cookbook, You Can Conquer TMJ: Ideas and Recipes. While neither offers haute cuisine, both offer great recipes: Think Lemon Chicken Linguini and Salmon Fettuccini, and okay, lentils and beans too.
Coffield has recently turned her hand to full time publishing, and her company, Moonlight Mesa Associates, Inc., is specializing in the Western-only genre, both fiction and nonfiction. Her first two publications, Saving Tom Black by Jere D. James and Reflections from the Wilderness, cowboy poetry by Stoney Greywolf Bowers, will also be available at this event. Both books had their official debut earlier this month at Mesa’s Old West Days Festival, where Jere James, Stoney Greywolf Bowers, and Becky signed their books.
In addition, Coffield recently signed Rusty Richards, former Sons of the Pioneers singer, for his rollicking biography of rodeo superstar, Casey Tibbs.
Moonlight Mesa Associates, Inc. has launched its new publishing endeavor with the First Annual Cowboy Up Short Story Contest, which ends December 1. Submission guidelines for the contest are available on www.moonlightmesaassociates.com.
The company, though small, is ambitious. Coffield believes it may be the sole publishing company in Arizona that publishes Western-only books…perhaps the sole publishing company in the entire West that does so. Coffield hopes to add one of her own titles to her Western collection…if she can ever find the time to write again.
