Art Auction

To honor its 10th anniversary, ArtFest of Henderson will present the 10 for 10 Art Auction Thursday, May 10, at 6 p.m. at the Henderson Convention Center garden patio – located at 200 Water Street.

The art auction, which is free and open to the public, will feature work by 10 local personalities who were matched with artists participating in ArtFest of Henderson to create 10 unique pieces of artwork. Art will be created prior to the art auction. The money raised will support art programs for Henderson middle and high school students.

“We are fortunate to have so many members of the community willing to donate their time and talents to this auction,” said Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson. “It is a unique opportunity to bring everyone together to benefit our youth and raise art awareness.”

Personalities confirmed to participate in the auction include: Tony Curtis, actor; Lon Kruger, UNLV Runnin’ Rebels basketball coach; Ronn Lucas, ventriloquist; comedian Louie Anderson; Norm Clarke, Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist; Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson; KSNE Sunny 106.5 FM on-air personalities Melanie, and Michael Neal; and world renowned French action painter and performer Jean Francois Detaille.

Proceeds will be used to fund 13 five-by-five-foot stretched canvases for the All People Promoting Literacy Efforts (APPLE) “Celebration of Reading” program. Students will use the canvases to illustrate a book they’re reading through the program.

Tony Curtis
Tony Curtis has been a Hollywood icon since the 1950s. A fan favorite, Curtis has acted and starred in more than 100 movies, including “The Sweet Smell of Success” (1957, with Burt Lancaster and “Some Like it Hot” (1959, with Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe He is also an accomplished artist and will be donating one of his unique pieces of work for the 10 for 10 Art Auction.

Ronn Lucas
Ronn Lucas is a nationally recognized ventriloquist and comedian who regularly sells out his live show currently at the Venetian. He has made appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and other various shows and was named “World’s Best Ventriloquist” by the New York Times. He delightfully mixes stand-up comedy, puppetry, audience participation, improvisation, along with his astonishing voice manipulations, all to the benefit of comedy-seeking fans worldwide.

Louie Anderson
Louie Anderson is one of the most versatile and successful comedians working in Hollywood today, loved by television audiences who never missed seeing him in the syndicated hit series, Family Feud, he is adored by his standing-room-only crowds in Las Vegas and respected by readers of his books. Lon Kruger
Lon Kruger just completed his third season as head basketball coach of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels.  Kruger led the 2006-07 squad to a 30-7 record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament where the Rebels advanced to the Sweet 16 with victories over Georgia Tech and Wisconsin.  It marked only the fifth time in UNLV history that a team compiled 30 victories and made Kruger only the fifth coach in NCAA History to lead four different programs to the NCAA Tournament. He is a former NBA coach and led the University of Florida to the Final Four in 1994.

Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson
James Gibson was elected Mayor of the City of Henderson in May 1997 and re-elected to his third term in 2005. As the second largest city in Nevada and one of the fastest growing cities in America, Henderson has experienced a staggering 335 percent growth rate over the past 15 years. Gibson is a native Nevadan, born in Las Vegas and has been a resident of Henderson for nearly 50 years.

Norm Clarke

Jean Francois Detaille
World renowned French action painter and performer Jean Francois Detaille is known for creating spontaneous, colorful pieces of art within minutes. Jean Francois will paint an artwork for the 10 for 10 Art Auction.
On Sunday, May 13, at 1:15 PM on the Henderson Convention Center stage Jean Francois will perform live and paint a series of paintings he will donate to ArtFest’s silent auction. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Henderson Libraries.
