Mariachi Los Vaqueros from Chaparral Empowerment High School has been in existence for 2 year and running. Representing one of 15 mariachi programs, Mariachi Los Vaqueros de Chaparral High School is the newest addition. Students range from the ages of 14 to 18 and play violin, trumpet, guitar, vihuela, guitarron, and harp.
Even as a young group, Los Vaqueros strive to preserve the rich Mexican heritage through their hard work, determination, and appreciation for mariachi music. Members of Los Vaqueros have earned trajes, attended the Tucson International Mariachi Conference, performed for the Superintendent of CCSD, received a Superior rating in the 5th annual CCSD Mariachi Festival, and has been invited to the Mariachi Festival at San Juan Capistrano in San Fernando Valley, California.
Mariachi Music is not new to many of the members of Chaparral’s mariachi ensemble. Many of the members are products of local middle school mariachi programs and community groups. Together these talented musicians are impacting audiences everywhere.
During this school year Mariachi Los Vaqueros are determined to make this year, “El Año de Bondad” (a year of service.) Students are preparing to tour the city to volunteer their music and time in shelters, church functions, hospitals, and other charitable events. The students feel the need and importance to share their gifts with the local community.
¡VIVA EL MARIACHI!
