Kiwanis Club of Scottsdale McCormick
Located by the LOVE Sculpture
The statement, “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time” defines the scope and purpose of Kiwanis International and the membership and activities of the Kiwanis Club of Scottsdale McCormick.
Community programs we support financially include the Piaute Neighborhood Center and the Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation’s Piaute Center Preventive Dental Clinic for children, Camp Kiwanis for teenagers, the Scottsdale Paradise Valley YMCA, 68th Place shelter for young girls, Scottsdale’s Vista del Camino program, Girl’s Ranch, Phoenix Children’s’ Hospital, the Scottsdale Boys & Girls Club as well as providing college scholarships (with the cooperation of Wells Fargo Private Client Services and the Helios Foundation) to local high school students.
Our used book sales at the ArtFest have become a major fund raising activity thanks to the generous support of the public. We collect used books from our friends and through calls for books from the public. Following excellent advise, we do not place a price on our books. We simply ask our shoppers to make whatever donation they wish with all proceeds going to our youth programs. All of our merchandise, the use of table, booth space, book storage, transportation and volunteer labor are provided without cost.
The Kiwanis Club of Scottsdale McCormick meets at 7:30 AM each Tuesday morning in the McCormick Ranch Golf Clubhouse. Visitors are welcome, the meeting ends at 8:30 AM. Contact Charlie Yeldell, President, at 480.874.9050 for more information about our club. If you have paper and hardback books you wish to donate (please, no magazines, encyclopedia, old reference texts or recordings) you may contact me. If no answer at the above number, please call Bill Pillow at 480.483.8164. |
Writing in Style, Writing Arts Section
Located by the LOVE Sculpture
In an electronic world that is rapidly eroding our society of personalized, handwritten communication, Cindy Zimmermann is seen by many to be the conduit of handwriting interests. As founder of “Writing in Style” Zimmermann’s organization synergizes educators, corporations, groups and individuals dedicated to preserving the time-honored tradition of written communication.
A dynamic speaker, including television guest appearances, corporate presentations and academic forums, Cindy Zimmermann’s message on effective personal communications has her audiences motivated to getting their pens back on paper. Organizations in healthcare, financial services, travel, retail, education and government sectors, have applauded her signature solutions.
According to Cindy Zimmermann, the impetus for effective written communication as a strategic standard of excellence is being demanded from the classroom to the corporate office. As cyberspace continues to impose a faceless, daunting competitor on personal connections with customers, employees, students and families, the tangible energy of a handwritten note continues to stand the test of time as the most powerful tool of communication.
