Toys on Parade
Here is your opportunity to participate in the WinterFest Toys on Parade Event hosted by the City of Henderson on Saturday, December 13, 2008. Enter the parade for a chance to win a cash prize. Just click here and complete the Parade Entry Form. Sponsorship is also available for those who prefer to support the event without building/creating their own entry.
This is a great way to be a part of the community, be creative and possibly win a great prize!

Prizes will be awarded for Best Overall $1000, Best Costume $500, and Best Group $500. All judged entries must be of amateur status to be eligible to win one of the three cash prizes mentioned above. Awards will be presented at the Henderson Events Plaza, located at 200 Water Street after the parade, (approximately 2pm).
The US Marine Corp, Grand Marshal of the parade, will be collecting Toys for Tots.We welcome and encourage participation in helping those less fortunate.
Join us after the parade for other WinterFest festvities featruing pony rides, ice skating, musical entertainment and over 65 vendors located in the Henderson Events Plaza.

Gingerbread House Contest
The City of Henderson Cultural Arts and Tourism Department would like to invite you to participate in Henderson’s 3rd Annual WinterFest Gingerbread House Contest. Gingerbread House entries will be displayed inside the Henderson Convention Center, where People’s Choice ballots and voting information will also be available.
The contest is open to:
1. Middle School Groups
2. High School Groups
3. Youth Groups (ages 11-18)
The winners for each category will receive a gift card to Desert Art Supply (located at 2750 N Green Valley Pkwy & 2003 E Charleston Blvd).
Come and enjoy the Gingerbread Houses on display during WinterFest:

Grand Marshall USMC
Mayor and City Council
James B. Gibson was elected Mayor of the city of Henderson in May 1997 and re-elected to his third term in 2005. He serves the entire Henderson community, which was named in 2006 by MONEY magazine as one of the top 20 places in the United States to live. Mayor Gibson is a native Nevadan, born in Las Vegas and a resident of Henderson for nearly 54 years. He was educated in the Clark County School District, earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1972 and his law degree from the California Western School of Law in 1975. Mayor Gibson is active in civic affairs and currently serves as secretary-treasurer of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Board of Directors.
Gerri Schroder was elected at large to the Henderson City Council in April 2007 representing Ward I. Previously, Gerri served as a district representative for Congresswoman Shelley Berkley from March 2000 to April 2007. Gerri is active in civic affairs and currently serves as secretary for the Board of Directors for S.A.F.E. House, Inc., secretary of the Japan America Society of Nevada and past president of Phi Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Between 1994 and 2007, Gerri voluntarily served on the city of Henderson Planning Commission and the Commemorative Beautification Commission (CBC). She implemented the city's Arbor Day program and the Community Clean-up Trailer project while a member of the CBC.
Andy Hafen was elected at large to the Henderson City Council in June 1987 and re-elected for his sixth term in 2007, representing Ward II. He graduated from Basic High School in 1972 and received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1976. He recently retired from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department where he was assigned to the Special Investigations Division for 23 years. Andy is active in the Nevada League of Cities and has served in positions including Secretary/Treasurer and Second Vice President. In 2006 Andy was elected President of the Nevada League of Cities and was awarded the prestigious Public Official of the Year Award by the League for his years of public service.
Steve Kirk was elected at large to the Henderson City Council in May 1999 and re-elected for his third term in 2007, representing Ward IV. Steve was raised in Henderson and is a graduate of Basic High School. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1984 with a degree in Design Engineering Technology. He is the Director of Acquisitions for RMI Investment Services. Steve currently serves as Vice Chair of the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) Board of Directors and is a member of the Clark County School District (CCSD) Oversight Board of Trustees and the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) Board of Directors.

Mannion Middle School Band
Mannion Middle school is in its 5th year and is located in southeast Henderson on Paradise Hills Drive. The Mannion Band is under the direction of Mr. Ron Battani and Mr. Jim Lind. Las Spring the Symphonic and Jazz bands received the highest rating, gold at competition in California. Also, the Concert received a gold rating at the Heritage Festival in Las Vegas. Reindeer on Bicycles
Santa's Reindeer are in training for the "big night". They need to be strong to carry the heavy load in Santa's Sleigh. Join the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure on April 4th right here at the Henderson Events Plaza. Fun for the whole family.
Really Rambunctious Anthem Red Hatters
Here comes the Really Rambunctious Anthem Red hatters, ages 50 plus. The purpose of the Red hat Society is fun. They wear purple and red and the glitzier the better. In keeping with the theme of the parade, the ladies are wearing ponchos they made and decorated themselves. The toys they carry will be donated for Toys for Tots.
Aunt Polly Norton Pledge Group
Here are the Girls from the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and their little sisters, the Aunt Polly Norton Pledge Girls. These young ladies are active in their communities all year long. This year they have been very active with the Ronald McDonald House, the Alzheimer's Foundation, and Positively Kids. Green Valley High School Marching Band
The Green Valley High school marching band is pleased to participate in this year's Henderson Christmas Parade. As well as marching locally, the band has participated in parades in London, England, Edinburgh, Scotland, Paris France and last year in Rome. The band is directed by Diane Koutsulis and Cecil Myers. The band would like to thank the band parents and school administration for all their continued support.

Desert Stars Belly Dance Troupe
Linda Starcovic teaches belly dance and zumba at all the Henderson recreation centers. Her troupe is comprised of students from these classes and includes participants of all ages. They dance Egyptian-style belly dance with a touch of tribal and enjoy participating in many events for the community to include ArtFest and Renn faire. Please enjoy their artistic dancing.
Scottish American Military Society Post 777
Scottish American Military Society post 777 was born at the close of the Highlands games 2003. We have participated in various parades and military ceremonies. We are proud to participate in award ceremonies for the different high school ROTC programs, as well as presenting the colors at the Highland games and something Scottish. We encourage anyone of Scottish or Irish decent to join, as well as various common wealth nations.
Brenda’s Dance and Tumbling Studio
These dancers & tumblers are from Desert Dynamite aka Brenda's Dance and Tumbling Studio in Henderson. They will be performing at WinterFest today at 2:15, a dance and tumbling show for all to enjoy. Community Church of Henderson
We are happy to announce the next entry in the Henderson WinterFest Parade. The community church of Henderson, headed by Reverend Merrill Kanouse, are proudly representing "Toys on Parade" with their truck and trailer combination. The truck and trailer were hand decorated by the Junior and Senior youth groups. The youth groups, their parents and members of the congregation are following the truck handing out candy cane angels for all the public here today.

Silverstate Minature Horse Club
The Silverstate Minature Horse Club of Nevada was established in 1995. The mini horse has been around for years in Europe used as a work animal to haul rock and work mines. They can pull several hundred pounds. Today they are enjoyed as family pets and versatile small equines. They love people and children when raised with them.
